Common Design mistakes

  • People are often scared of making mistakes and therefore often play it safe instead of going for what they really want.
  • Use an Interior Designer, even if only to put you on the right track.
  • People get stuck, particularly with expensive purchases as they don’t want to get it wrong.
  • Don’t over furnish.
  • De-clutter, one of the biggest design errors, too much clutter.
  • Effective lighting is important. It doesn’t matter how good the room looks if the lighting is poor.
  • Plan in advance, don’t just look at one thing at a time. Get the overall look of the room right then proceed with buying the items.
  • Consider natural light, how much and where it comes from.
  • Consider your floor covering colours as well as your wall colours before buying furnishings.
  • Don’t hang artwork too high, it should be at eye level.
  • Consider scale and proportion of furniture, don’t put a small sofa in a large room or vice versa.
